Post #12: Almost ready to learn hello in yet another language
well, I'm almost Vietnamed out. Nearly a month in this country and I think that's enough - although we did pass through a few towns where I would not have minded hanging out for a while... oh well. After acquiring a new wardrobe (SUITS!!!!!!!!!!! Yey for Black - so many nice matierials and I was obliged to only choose black - gotta love Lawyers) in Hoi An. We went to the beach there as well - although all the shopping only left us 1 hour of scorching hot sun on which we smartly didn't use any sunscrean. Paulina - you'd have a laugh at this - because both me and my mom decided that sunscrean was pointless. So see, it's not just me. But our decision was a tad bit ideotic considering the fact that it was a cloudless afternoon from noon until 2pm. Although we have no signs of any serious flesh eating disease just yet. No skin peeling either.
From Hoi An it was a marathon bus journey to Saigon via Na Thrang (2 hour stop over) and Mui Ne (1/2 hour stop over). We arrived in Saigon 25 hours after setting out of Hoi An and 27 hours after lining up for a bus that was 2 hours late in arriving. So quite exhausted.
Saigon however is not what I expected it to be. It's a huge city (6 million people) that is very western from it's appearance yet has the chaos of Hanoi - massie trafic, crazy streets, vendors everywhere. It's an odd mixture that does't seem to convey any tradition/culture/charm. Hence we figured one day is enough for it. This resulted in a maniac-like rush throughout the entire town today with the hopes of seeing everything there was to see and spending more endless hours shopping. Got to love the balance.
Tomorrow we're off on a 3 day tour of the Mekong Delta that will eventually take us across the border into Cambodia and then to Phnon Phen. We should be there by the 14th. And all this is a wonderful gamble since tomorrow night in some smallish town on the shores of the Mekong River in the middle of nowhere I'm hoping to find an increadibly fast internet connection taht will allow me to register for all my courses at 11pm. (Keeping my fingers crossed). Otherwise - could someone do it for me????
But yeah... that's it for now.
Tryign to burn photos to CD so probably won't have time to post any. Sorry.

PS: does anybody know the name of the place that has the tigers in Thailand? I remember so many people telling me about it and saying it's between the Cambodian border and Bangkok but I can't seem to track it down in the book.
PS Nancy: got your email 4 times round so you don't have to worry about the net freezing.
PS Paulina: any more news on those CDs?
